The international congress “BIOPOLYMER – Processing & Moulding 2026” once again proved to be an important platform for professional exchange on bio-based and biodegradable plastics. Around 100 participants on site in Halle (Saale), along with a further 70 international participants via livestream, discussed current developments across the entire value chain—from new materials and additives to processing methods, applications, recycling, and biodegradability.

A distinctive feature of the congress was its strong practical orientation. Numerous speakers presented concrete application examples and research findings that highlighted the potential of sustainable plastics for industrial use. At the same time, the event offered a wide range of opportunities for international networking and fostered exchange between industry, research, and application.

The highlight of the first day of the event was the presentation of the BIOPOLYMER Innovation Award. This award recognizes innovative developments in the field of bio-based and biodegradable plastics and underlines the congress’s ambition to make innovation visible and to promote technology transfer into industrial practice. Overall, the event confirmed its role as an international platform for sustainable plastic solutions and for advancing the circular economy.
